Each of these encodes a payment request in the scheme its network expects: a UPI ID and amount for Indian bank apps, a wallet address and amount for crypto, IBAN details for a SEPA transfer, and a PayPal.Me link. The scan opens the payer's own app with the details filled in; nothing moves until they authorise it there.
Check every character before this goes anywhere public. A payment code is a bearer instrument pointed at your account details, and a typo in an IBAN or a wallet address sends money somewhere unrecoverable. Scan your own printed code and read the destination back on the confirmation screen. These codes are static, so the details cannot be changed after printing — and anyone can photograph a code on public display and substitute their own.
